One of the most anticipated novels of 2018 according to Entertainment Weekly * Goodreads * Esquire * Elle * Cosmopolitan *BBC * Huffington Post * Bustle * Southern Living * Newsday * Bookish * Nylon * iBooks Store

The author of Silver Sparrow returns with a stunning novel about race, loyalty, and love that endures.

Newlyweds Celestial and Roy are the embodiment of both the American Dream and the New South. He is a young executive, and she is an artist on the brink of an exciting career. But as they settle into the routine of their life together, they are ripped apart by circumstances neither could have imagined. Roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years for a crime Celestial knows he didn't commit. Though fiercely independent, Celestial finds herself bereft and unmoored, taking comfort in Andre, her childhood friend, and best man at their wedding. As Roy's time in prison passes, she is unable to hold on to the love that has been her center. After five years, Roy's conviction is suddenly overturned, and he returns to Atlanta ready to resume their life together.

This stirring love story is a profoundly insightful look into the hearts and minds of three people who are at once bound and separated by forces beyond their control. An American Marriage is a masterpiece of storytelling, an intimate look deep into the souls of people who must reckon with the past while moving forward--with hope and pain--into the future.

    1. Vivid study of the vows we make

I could not put this book down. The characters are very real, and they act and react in surprising ways. It is a vivid study in the vows and promises we make to each other in relationships and what we can withstand and not withstand when trouble comes our way. Being widowed/remarried I related well to Celeste both trying to deal with love thwarted by sudden circumstances of no fault of her own, and trying to love again in the present, when everything is shifted and different. I bought this book through Mahogany Books and was happily surprised to receive a copy autographed by the author. I understand the author also is supposed to be a featured author at George Mason University's Fall for the Book Festival in Fairfax, Virginia in Fall 2018. I recommend her book to others. on 8th Jul 2018
