The African Diaspora and Civic Responsibility: Perspectives on Addressing Injustice Through the Arts, Education and Community Engagement (PB) (2026)

Throughout American history, dance and music together have influenced and even been the catalyst for social movements and change. This book delves into how Black and Brown artists (including African American, African Brazilian, Haitian, and Latine contributors), spiritual practitioners, mothers, cultural presenters, community organizers, performers, and teachers confront civic responsibility and social justice through their artistic practices and activism.

Grounded in ethnographic research, interviews, artistic practice, and community exchanges, this work provides insight into how these creatives and scholars weave together their roles as cultural leaders and change-makers, offering a rich exploration of how art and praxis drive meaningful social transformation.
