Job Description

The MahoganyBooks part-time bookseller is responsible for selling books and related items to customers. Your duties will also include helping customers locate books, stock inventory, and processing special orders and customer transactions. This position will also be cross-trained as a barista to assist with the coffee bar.

Ultimately, you are at the forefront of creating an exciting and engaging shopping experience in the store by enthusiastically sharing your knowledge about our products and services and meeting the needs of the customer. A highly qualified individual values people, culture, and community and exemplify our core values.

Expectations: 

  • Greet customers, determine their needs, answer questions, and describe upcoming and current services and products.
  • Restock products and merchandising displays 
  • Operate equipment; troubleshoot breakdowns; maintain supplies; and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following cleaning, sanitation, and operational standards.
  • Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold café drinks following prescribed recipes and techniques.
  • Replenish customer service stations, receive products, and take out the trash.
  • Part-time positions require availability to work on a weekly basis year-round. Schedules include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. They may be set or vary to meet the needs of the store.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent movement within the store to access various departments, areas, and/or products.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting.
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

 Qualifications

  • Proficient knowledge of book titles, authors, and genres. Experience with cash registers and point of sale (POS) systems. Familiarity with ordering and restocking books.
  • Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age to be considered for employment.
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • High-energy, friendly personality, with strong communication skills to interact with a variety of people.
  • Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
  • Basic math, keyboarding, and data entry skills.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is necessary.
