Job Description

The MahoganyBooks Lead Bookseller is at the forefront of creating an exciting and engaging shopping experience in the store by enthusiastically sharing your knowledge about our products and services. Your duties will include helping customers locate books, stock inventory, and processing special orders and customer transactions. This position will also be cross-trained as a barista to assist with coffee bar tasks.

Expectations: 

  • Greet customers, determine their needs, answer questions, and describe upcoming and current services and products.
  • Demonstrate expert-level knowledge of MahoganyBooks systems and effectively implement company strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Restock products according to the merchandising plan and assist in store organizational projects.
  • Operate equipment; troubleshoot breakdowns; maintain supplies; and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following cleaning, sanitation, and operational standards.
  • Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold café drinks following prescribed recipes and techniques.
  • Replenish customer service stations, receive products, and take out the trash.
  • The full-time position requires 35-40 hours a week year-round. Schedules include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. They may be set or vary to meet the needs of the store.
  • Support and staff both in-store and off-site events. 

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent movement within the store to access various departments, areas, and/or products.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting.
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

Qualifications

  • Proficient knowledge of book titles, authors, and genres. Experience with cash registers and point of sale (POS) systems. Familiarity with ordering and restocking books.
  • Qualified candidates will have 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age to be considered for employment.
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • High-energy, friendly personality, with strong communication skills to interact with a variety of people.
  • Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
  • Basic math, keyboarding, and data entry skills.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is necessary.

Compensation: This is a paid, hourly position that qualifies for health insurance, vacation, sick leave, a parking stipend, and other employee benefits.
