In-depth inventory – Our focus is to be a bookstore that puts forward an accurate representation of the stories, values, and wisdom that consist of the African American experience. As a result we will at all times maintain the most comprehensive inventory of books written for, by, or about people of the African Diaspora. If a title cannot be found within our online catalog of "African American Books," we will place a special order to fulfill your needs.
Community Engagement – MahoganyBooks is a "community bookstore" dedicated to serving readers, writers, & supporters of African American literature. Our aim is to cultivate dialogue and develop events, both online and in the community, that unite people around literacy and literature. Additionally, developing and maintaining strong involvement with our community is necessary in our effort to increase the importance of literacy and education among all members of the African American community.
Philanthropy – The success that we enjoy is a direct result of the support, goodwill, and mentorship of those from our community. We feel it is necessary to "pay-forward" any success we enjoy today, so tomorrow's leaders may see and reach further than we could. By partnering with literacy-based organizations to teach reading, conducting book drives, and providing scholarships, MahoganyBooks is determined to better people lives through books.
Cooperative Economics – MahoganyBooks believe deeply in the progress & empowerment of our entrepreneurial Black family. We feel that it is important for like minded, Black-owned businesses to support each other through promotion, purchasing, and the sharing of skills & resources. Developing a network of businesses dedicated to increasing the competitiveness of each business involved adds to the economic and political empowerment of the communities surrounding each business.
MahoganyBooks is an online bookstore that serves the African American reader. In addition to a user friendly internet bookstore, we feature an interactive blog, The WritersBloc, and a social networking site called, The Lit Lounge. They all work together to promote all African American books and authors, as well as, foster a dialogue between readers and writers about the power of words and the importance of reading.
